What is a Credit Union?
A credit union is a member-owned financial institution organized by a group of people (members) sharing a common bond of association to promote thrift and provide credit to one another. Profits generated by the credit union are returned to the members in the form of dividends and low-cost services.
How the Credit Union Operates
Ownership and control of the credit union rests directly with the membership. At the Annual Meeting held each year, members elect directors from among their number. The Board of Directors determines the policies that govern the operation and business of the credit union. The board appoints a Supervisory Committee, made up of members of the credit union, to audit the credit union records, verify members’ accounts, and insure that regulations and policies are followed. The Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee members are volunteers and receive no compensation for their services.
About Our Logo
Our logo is the end product of the many ideas sent in by members when we dared to ask, “How Do You Picture Us?” Look closely and you will see people linked arm in arm in a circle to represent strength in unity. The “heads” in the center are rocks representing the different islands where our members live and work. The “linking arms” is also a ring of bamboo that describes our resiliency as we weather the highs and lows of tourism together. The circle of “legs” is also a lei that celebrates our spirit of aloha. Our logo is a reflection of our “people helping people” philosophy and how our members picture us.
